Cheri's Barn

A Place for Sanctuary

Harmony Acres offers a lifelong commitment to every animal that calls our center home. Caring staff and volunteers ensure that each animal's needs are fully met, including dietary, enrichment, exercise, and sociability. When the animals are fully loved and cared for, we find they are eager to give back what they have received through programs benefiting others. You can sponsor one of our animals for as little as $5 a month, and become part of a full circle of love: which goes first to the animal, and then to the healing they participate in on a daily basis.

Cheri's Barn

Cheri Livingston (February 12, 1946 - December 25, 2021) was a lifelong animal advocate who cared for many special needs and rescue animals at her home and farm in Loma, Colorado. She was also a tireless volunteer and advocate for Harmony Acres since our beginnings, who supported the animals and people at Harmony in multiple ways, including donating, teaching volunteer classes, designing and building a trail/obstacle course, and assisting with rescue work. Cheri had always shared in Harmony's vision to support healing work for animals and people; alongside leaders of Harmony, she had dreamed of a specialized animal barn that would assist in better caring for Harmony's special needs animals. Through the support of Cheri and other generous donors, the "Cheri's Barn" project has taken shape to add facility improvements that will both support improved animal care, along with increased program delivery for our Mental Health Therapy programs.

Goals of the project include:

1) Improving our animal areas and our ability to care for our animals

2)Creating a more private and accessible space for our mental health therapy programming, with the goal of increased client services

3) Improving the access, comfort, and layout of our facilities through improved roadways and landscaping

Over a time span of three years, this project will include:

-Improved animal areas in the back of the property, including new shelters and automatic waterers

-Improvement to our driveways and roadways while laying out a foundation to a new barn area

-A property design layout that will focus our capital improvements over the coming years

-The addition of a small animal barn next to our covered arena at the front of the property, which will improve animal care along with creating a more private and accessible space for clients in our Mental Health Therapy program

-Improved landscaping at the front of the property to include a family area and trees for shade

-The addition of staffing for our Mental Health Therapy program to continue to expand our therapy services to the Mesa County community

We have been able to move forward with this project with confidence due to the pledges of generous donors. We will still need to gather more funds over the coming three years to support this vision and dedicate this barn in Cheri's honor. If you would like to join us in these plans and make a donation, you can donate with the button below. Please put "Cheri's Barn" in the subject line if you would like to designate your funds to this project.

Current Progress:

New Shelters provide safe space for our animals until the barn is built; eventually we hope to transition these area to quarantine areas to help more animals in need. We are so grateful for the ability to replace the old plywood temporary shelters with these amazing spaces!
